From its star-studded cast to its touching story, The Holiday is a movie that keeps me coming back year after year. It's a story about growth, grief, healing, self-discovery, adventure, falling in love, and connections. To commemorate my love for The Holiday, I wanted to share books that capture some of the essence of this wonderful film.
Kiss Her Once For Me By Alison Cochrun
Kiss Her Once For Me takes our main character Ellie Oliver on a chaotic journey during the holiday season. We find Ellie being swept up in a marriage of convenience, which results in her reuniting with the woman who hurt her. We follow her as she makes decisions that are right for her now while learning how she was hurt in the first place. Alison Cochrun brings the holiday magic to this romance story, which emphasizes growth, healing, and second chances.
Kiss Her Once For Me is reminiscent of The Holiday in the way it brings growth and love to the center stage during the backdrop of a snowy holiday season.
People We Meet On Vacation By Emily Henry
People We Meet On Vacation (PWMOV) is a dual-point-of-view novel that explores the relationship of Poppy and Alex before and after an event that altered their relationship. The novel picks up as these strained friends take one last vacation to see if they can fix their relationship. This is significant and reminiscent for both of them as their annual trips kept them connected despite living in separate places. Emily Henry captures the magic of traveling, self-discovery, healing, and reconnection.
PWMOV is a great fit for fans of The Holiday as it captures that itch for adventure and travel, and the romance and discovery that can happen along the way.
Have We Met? series by Camille Baker
The Have We Met? series is a set of romance novels, with magical realism, that follow each main character as they discover a mysterious app downloaded onto their phones. This app, Met, presents four people who the main character has met, who could be their soulmates. Camille Baker imbues magic into these novels to prompt each character to face grief, heal, connect with loved ones, and fall in love.
This series connects to The Holiday through its themes of grief and pain, and working through that to find whatever one may be looking for.
The Holiday has always brought me joy because of its multitudes, which I've found reflected in books that I've read and appreciated just the same. And, I hope you can too!
