Are you looking for something to read to ring in the new year? Are you a fan of New Year’s cozy mysteries? Then we have some suggestions for a few cozy mysteries set during New Year’s that are perfect for ringing in a whole new year.
What I appreciate about these books is that for two of them, they are the first book in a series, so you’re starting off fresh. And we love that when we were talking about a new year. For the third book, it’s a developed series, but I don’t think you need to have read them all to appreciate the story. That being said we all know that reading the books that come before add to overall enjoyment.
So what are we reading or rereading to ring in a new year? Bring on the cozy mysteries!
3 Cozy Mysteries to read this New Year’s
Phony Photos (Cozy Corgi Mysteries Book 16) by Mildred Abbott
When it comes to cute and cozy mysteries, the Cozy Corgi series is an absolute win. And with 37 books to choose from, there’s a lot of reading material available. But we are here for the New Year’s themed book. And this one is definitely at the top of our favorites list. I feel like you don’t need to have read the first 15 books to understand what’s happening. Obviously it does add to the enjoyment. That being said, I love that there’s a recipe perfect for a New Year’s Eve party, a murder mystery and everything else you want from a cozy mystery in this book.
Murder on New Year's Eve (A Ridgeway Rescue Mystery Book 1) by P Creeden
This one is a quick read that is perfect for New Year’s Eve. If you want to ring in the new year with a good book, this is a great choice. It’s just the right mix of cozy and mystery without being too much. And you had me at K9 rescue. But also I loved that the story had a woman going on a “date” with her crush, even if it wasn’t a real date and rather a chance for her to spend time with him while working. It just added that little bit of fun that you don’t always get with the darker mystery books, and it is why we love a good cozy mystery. Do we want a little more character development? Yes. But there’s a whole series that follows this book, so I feel like that’s fine. I zipped through this book so quickly, and I was very excited to see that there were more books in the series that were already released. This was my first time reading this author, and it will not be my last.
Have a Deadly New Year (A Farm-to-Fork Mystery) by Lynn Cahoon
I love a good culinary cozy mystery. And that’s exactly what we get with Have a Deadly New Year. I loved that this book featured foodies trying to solve a murder, a restaurant trying to host a special event, and if you couldn’t tell by the cover, a dog. It really felt like it had it all, and I enjoyed the main character. I do have to point out that this is a Novella so it’s not going to be that long, but I found the story satisfying. I also appreciate the fact that this is basically the start of a new series, from an author who already has a nice backlist of books (this one is from 2019 so there are even more since then). So if you like her writing style, there’s plenty more where that came from.
