Recently, I have been seeing more people talk about leaving Goodreads. And it led me to think about why I have yet to look for a new platform to keep track of my reading. In part, there are three main reasons why I have yet to be able to leave, and it led me to think about why I have yet to look for a new platform to keep track of my reading. In part, there are three main reasons why I have yet to be able to walk away from this particular site.

Do my reasons make sense? Maybe not. But they make sense for me.

3 reasons I still use Goodreads regularly

Are you someone who likes to read reviews of books? While I don’t always read reviews, there are times when after I finish a book, I will go back and read the reviews. In part, it’s a chance to confirm something in my mind about the book I read. It’s actually one of the reasons I use Goodreads.

For me, being able to check reviews that have not been posted to the site where a book was purchased is very important. Considering how Amazon can prevent people from posting reviews based on any number of reasons, I don’t really use them for their review section. And I like to read reviews from people like myself: readers. It’s not really for any major reason, it’s just something that I do.

Of course, reviews are not the only reason that I can’t seem to walk away from using Goodreads. Another reason that it is a must-use site for me is because I use it to keep track of what I am reading. It lets me know what I’ve already read, as well as how much I have read.

I am one of those people who set a goal for myself at the beginning of January, thanks to the yearly Goodreads challenge. And I make sure that every book I read, or even reread, gets included in my challenge. For some reason, I always find that having that goal helps me to feel like I am doing something for myself.

Whether or not there are other platforms that offer this feature, I have to admit that I am spoiled by this offering from Goodreads. It has actually increased how much I am reading every year. And I love that for me.

Honestly, the third reason that I use the site is because I am lazy. Learning a new platform or site is something I dread. I am so stuck in my ways at this point that I can’t imagine having to learn a new system for keeping track of the books that I’m reading, the reviews that I’m writing, or even the reviews I want to read.

That’s not to say that I won’t try something new, but for now, it’s definitely a reason why I have yet to walk away from Goodreads.

When it comes to Goodreads, I am still hooked. And while I should definitely see what else is out there, for now, this is the site that works for me.
