For a lot of us, it has been a very cold and snowy winter. But that also means that we can curl up with a hot cup of coffee or tea, a cozy blanket, and a good book. And what better book to read on a snowy day than a winter themed cozy mystery?

There are so many cozy mysteries on the market. Sometimes you want to find ones with specific themes. Luckily for us, cozy mysteries are known for their themes.

Inspired by snow and winter, the following three cozy mysteries are keeping us warm and entertained this season. And hopefully, as we read these, the snow will go away and spring will have sprung.

So what exactly are these cozy mysteries? And what makes them such good reads this winter?

3 Cozy Mystery Books to read this winter

On Thin Icing by Ellie Alexander

The fun thing about this particular book is that it’s part of a series, but this is the start of it. And not only is it a winter themed cozy mystery, it’s also a bake shop mystery. This means that there are recipes included. I adore when authors include recipes that we can try that keep us connected to the story.

Interestingly enough, this is also set in a small town, which adds a little bit of something extra to the overall cozy mystery vibes. And the fact that it’s set in winter means that there aren’t many people in town, so when an off-season retreat leads to a dead body, you know that the story is going to get hot and spicy. But in the good way that we expect from a cozy mystery.

Murder in a Cape Cottage (A Cozy Capers Book Group Mystery) by Maddie Day

Although this is book four of seven, it really feels like you can read this particular book out of order, because I feel like with this particular cozy mystery series it’s okay not to read in order. Now does it help? Obviously, you want to get it all from the very beginning, but if you’re just looking for the winter vibes only, then just grab this one and give the author a try.

I really enjoyed the fact that this is a small town mystery set around Christmas and New Year’s, with a little bit of wedding prep thrown in. I really enjoy the fact that there’s also a mystery that’s decades old that our amateur sleuth is trying to help solve with the help of a book group and the local librarian. It kind of adds the cozy mystery vibes we know and love. And as an added bonus, we get recipes with this one as well.

A Midwinter's Tail by Sofie Kelly

I really love this series. It’s an older series, in fact, this book is from 2014, but that doesn’t matter. This series, features magic, cats, a library, and of course, murder. This is definitely a fun read, with plenty of hijinks, thanks to the two felines that are always on the case to help unravel the mystery with their owner.

I found that this book was a lot of fun as both a holiday read and a winter read. And, you might just find a new author to enjoy, if you haven’t read her before. This was a shorter read, at least for me. And as soon as I finished it, I had to grab another book from the author.
