5 page-to-screen fantasy adaptations in the works

One of the biggest battles readers face is the desire to see their favorite books brought to justice on the big screen, and then the constant let-down when the adaptation just isn’t what we hoped for. No matter what company buys the rights to the film and no matter who is cast in the roles, all we can do is hope that the TV show or movie will bring us even closer to feeling the same way we did while reading that book for the first time. Despite my fear of being let down, I will always give the adaptations of my favorite books a chance because no matter what, the emotions while watching something you love so deeply being brought to life make it more than worth the potential that it may not be as good. I have compiled a list of five page-to-screen fantasy adaptations to keep an eye out for and consider adding the books to your TBR if you haven’t read them already!

1. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

The TV rights for this fantasy sensation were picked up by Amazon. Although there isn’t a lot of information available yet about the TV series, this is one of my most highly anticipated. As an avid fan of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, I love to see the world of dragons brought to life. I am anxiously awaiting casting announcements for the main characters, especially Xaden—obviously—and of course, hoping for a release date that isn’t too far away!

2. Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

This modern-day retelling of The Legend of King Arthur was picked up by Black Bear Television back in 2022. While there has been very little news about the adaptation since the announcement, Legendborn has continued to grow in popularity among the Booktok community. This is another series that is high on my TBR, and luckily the third book releases in March so I am hoping to get to this one this year.

3. Quicksilver by Callie Hart

Quicksilver was an overnight sensation, starting as an indie release back in June and was officially picked up by Hachette Books in September. Callie took to Instagram in early December to announce that Netflix won a bidding war and would be adapting the viral book into a TV series. While I have yet to read this book, it is one of my most anticipated reads of 2025 and I have heard nothing but amazing things. I truly can’t wait to see what Netflix does with this series!

4. From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout

From Blood and Ash was one of the first fantasy series that ignited my love for the genre, so JLA’s announcement in December that Sony would be developing the series into a TV adaptation has me so excited! There are so many elements to this adaptation that I can’t wait for, including the casting of Poppy and Casteel. I am also curious to see how they plan to bring Sera and Nyktos to life as well, as this is a prequel and may require additional seasons or a whole separate series. Hopefully, we get some answers this year!

5. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

A Court of Thorns and Roses was picked up by Hulu back in 2021 and is probably one of the most highly debated adaptations I have heard about. Die hard fans are very nervous about this series being done right for TV, especially with its popularity status. Rumors back in 2024 spread that Margot Robbie was potentially in the running to help bring the show to the big screen, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. While I am just as excited as the other fans to see the bat boys grace my screen at home, all we can do is wait for further announcements.
