Beyond Fear Street: Five spin-off books from R.L. Stine to read this Halloween
If you have watched the Fear Street trilogy on Netflix, you might be interested in doing a deeper dive into the world of Fear Street from R.L. Stine. And while we are all about those original Fear Street books (there are 51 of them), there are also a number of spin-off series that feature this terrifying street in the fictional town of Shadyside.
As a long-time fan of Stine and his Fear Street books, it was interesting to learn that some of my favorites were actually not part of the primary series. And with so many books to choose from, we wanted to recommend a few favorites that would be perfect for a bit of a spooky read as we come to the end of October. With Halloween around the corner, Fear Street books are definitely worth a read or two.
If you want to go deeper into the world of Fear Street, here are some of our favorite spin-off books from R.L. Stine that are just as creepy, spooky and chilling as the original series of books.
5 spin-off books from the Fear Street Series that are worth reading for spooky season (and beyond)
The Stepbrother (Book 1 New Fear Street)
Any time you add someone new to your family, you might have questions about who they are. And this is especially true if you live on or near Fear Street. When a psychic indicates that your dreams of being a murderer are glimpses of your past life, the big question becomes is your new stepbrother a returned villain from your past?
*One thing to note about New Fear Street, is that when you search for it, some sites add it to the original Fear Street series in terms of number order.
Silent Night (Fear Street Super Chillers)
While this book has a Christmas theme, it is so good that we can't resist this one as a spooky season read. This story features a girl who thinks that she is above it all and she can do whatever it is that she wants. But when she ends up with a stalker, she may find out that she really isn't as special as she thinks she is. Will it be a happy holiday or a truly Silent Night?
The Dead Lifeguard (Fear Street Super Chillers)
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Super Chillers are definitely some of the more spooky Fear Street novels. And The Dead Lifeguard is no exception, as we get a story of lifeguards who think they are the lucky ones versus their peers. After all, they aren't spending their summer flipping burgers and taking food orders. But something is out to get the lifeguards, and one by one they start turning up dead. Maybe they aren't as lucky as they thought they were.
The Fear Street Saga (3 Book Trilogy)
Originally I was going to skip adding The Fear Street Saga to this list because you really have to read all three books, but honestly, this is such a good addition to the Fear Street universe. In book 1, Betrayal, we meet Nora and learn that she knows secrets of Fear Street. She knows the dark legacy that stalks this street and her family, and she intends to reveal those secrets. Book 2 is The Secret, where the truth is revealed as we head back to the past when things went terribly wrong and we learn the origins of the Fear family. And then there is The Burning, the final book where Nora and Daniel are two young lovers who want to put an end to the curse that is not only keeping them apart, but could destroy more than just themselves, but their families as well. Will they be able to stop the evil?
A New Fear (Fear Street Sagas)
In this book we learn whether or not Nora and Daniel were able to stop the curse and what comes next. There is simply no way to reveal what this book is about without spoiling The Fear Street Saga, but I'm sure if you have read any Fear Street books, you already know what happened and why this is a must read for spooky season and beyond.
