As our Halloween coverage continues, the spooky season would not be complete without zombies. We've covered witchy books, now let's move on to those undead beings that infect you after they bite your neck.

Zombies come in all shapes and sizes and mythology. Traditionally when we think of zombies, the first images that come to mind are corpses rising from the dead with hunched backs and unintelligent groans.

Authors have often taken their own flare on the undead idea. Let's look into some of these books now, shall we?

1. Newsflesh Series - Mira Grant

I'd never heard of Newsflesh before I started chatting with my colleagues. So, the Newsflesh series comprises of four books released in the early 2010s and a series of short stories/novellas.

The main books in the Newsflesh series include:

  1. Feed
  2. Deadline
  3. Blackout
  4. Feedback

If you would like to see the whole list of books, the list to the Goodreads list is linked above.

2. The White Rabbit Chronicles - Gena Showalter

An oldie but a goodie. If you ever need a twist on a classic, the Alice in Zombieland series is one that you will love. I read the first couple of books in this series and loved them.

A Young Adult series, The White Rabbit Chronicles introduces Alice Bell, a teenager who loses her entire family in a zombie attack. She doesn't like her family until they're all dead with the only person she ever loved in her family being her little sister, Emma.

Before the deaths of her family, Alice saw her father as paranoid, hence why she and Emma were never allowed out after dark as her dad always said there were monsters lurking in the dark. Upon his murder, Ali realizes he's right.

There is a bad boy involved named Cole Holland who has this passionate relationship with Ali, despite being a zombie hunter.

3. Pride And Prejudice And Zombies - Seth Grahame-Smith

Like The White Rabbit Chronicles, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a twist on a classic. In this case, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. This book is exactly what the original would've been if the characters were badass zombie hunters. Though, unlike the original, there is no happy ending. The book was adapted into a movie in 2016, starring Lily James and Sam Riley.

4. World War Z - Max Brooks

What do zombies and Max Brooks have in common? Hmm... World War Z. For those unfamiliar, Max Brooks is the son of comedian Mel Brooks. But unlike his famous dad, he became an author rather than an actor.

World War Z was released in 2006 and became a movie in 2013 starring Brad Pitt. The original novel was written to follow the storyline from a previous book Brooks had written set within the same universe.

5. Diary of A Minecraft Zombie Series - Zack Zombie

What happens when you cross (sort of) Diary of a Wimpy Kid, with Zombies and Minecraft? You get Diary of a Minecraft Zombie. This book series was written by Zack Zombie, a non de plume used by a husband and wife team and their young son who wrote the books for young fans of the popular videogame franchise.
