The trend of witchy romance books hasn't always been at the forefront. In recent years, a lot of romances featuring witches, witchcraft, and other magical people have become more mainstream.

However, The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling felt like a book that everyone was talking about. Maybe it was the adorable cover or the fact that it came out about a month before Halloween but it was a massively popular book.

As much as I liked it, I didn't love it so I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue with the series. After getting an ARC of The Wedding Witch, I knew that I had no choice so I decided to head back to Graves Glen and take a peek at The Kiss Curse.

Even though the series is a set of standalones, it's best to read the books in publication order as you learn more about the characters and thus, the eventual couples. Plus it's almost Halloween so you have no reason not to.

Was The Kiss Curse charming or downright disenchanting?

If you've read The Ex Hex, you'll likely remember these two characters as we're following Gwyn who is Vivi's cousin and then, Wells who is Rhys' brother. The two end up meeting while Rhys and Vivi are away so they're unfortunately stuck being around each other. Things get even worse when Wells tries to encroach on Gwyn's business.

From the very start, these two have such chemistry because they truly do not like each other. As wild as it might seem, they can't stand to be together. Of course, things slowly start to shift as they're tasked with helping Gwyn to get her powers back. This also happens to be when a new group of witches comes into town.

As much as I liked The Ex Hex, The Kiss Curse didn't hold a candle to it. In The Ex Hex, the two had a connection that was undeniable and I just didn't feel that pull with Gwyn and Wells. I feel like Gwyn is such an interesting character that this could have been a great romance. Unfortunately, this story just didn't work for me.

Maybe it's a case of second-book syndrome or just a lack of relationship development, but Gwyn and Wells didn't jump off the page. Then again, this could be a case of me being picky as a reader but in comparison to the other two books in the series, this one wasn't as great of a read. However, I do still think you need to read the series as I adored The Wedding Witch.

The Graves Glen series featuring The Ex Hex, The Kiss Curse, and The Wedding Witch by Erin Sterling is out now where books are sold.
