Searching for a book subscription box isn't easy. Book of the Month is one that a lot of readers go with and it's a good idea.

Each month, you get your pick between 5 hardcover books or 5 audiobooks. Some of them are repeats of both hardcovers and audiobooks but for the most part, you get what you pay for. Plus it's significantly cheaper than buying a hardcover or audiobook.

It's a pretty easy one to commit to as well which is shared on BOTM's Help Center: "At the start of each month, we'll feature 5-7 new wow-worthy reads. You'll then have until the 6th of the month to log into our site or app and pick one of our monthly selections or skip the month—the choice is entirely up to you!" As you can see, it's pretty easy and you can even skip a month if you're not loving something which is a nice perk.

Moving onto the hardcover picks, the first is a romance and that's The Pairing by Casey McQuiston. I feel like this is going to be a popular one for BOTM especially with Red, White and Royal Blue being adapted. That's the first of the hardcovers you can pick from and what a way to start off the picks.

What books is Book of the Month offering in August 2024?

Usually, Book of the Month keeps things consistent as far as genre goes so next is a thriller which is Like Mother, Like Daughter by Kimberly McCreight. Along with McQuiston, McCreight is a repeat author and it's about a daughter, trying to figure out what happened to her mom. Then for the fantasy, Hera by Jennifer Saint is a look at the Greek goddess but in a brand new light.

Rounding out the list of hardcovers is a contemporary fiction: The Wedding People by Alison Espach and a literary fiction debut: Five-Star Stranger by Kat Tang. These final two have more abstract descriptions but they're bound to find an audience. BOTM doesn't give many details about its titles but it does share comp titles and a little more info when you click on the book.

If you're in the mood for an audiobook, you're in luck as most of this month's picks are repeats with audiobooks of The Pairing, The Wedding People, and Five-Star Stranger all having an option for you to pick up an audiobook. For the thriller pick, BOTM chose House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen which follows the death of a nanny and a wealthy family. The fantasy choice is A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher which is a retelling of Goose Girl and lastly is The Days I Loved You Most by Amy Neff which is a contemporary debut about a couple grappling with their marriage as their lives are close to ending.

Book of the Month has so many great picks for August so no matter what you're in the mood for, you're sure to find a solid pick for this lineup. If it was me though, I'd either have to go with Casey McQuiston or T. Kingfisher because they're both on my TBR.
