There is something utterly special about being a romance reader. It's even better when you find an author you love and for so many, it's Ali Hazelwood.

Hazelwood originally came to popularity as a Reylo fanfiction writer which was then picked up by a publisher and retooled into The Love Hypothesis. If you've seen the cover or even read a bit of the book, you can see the clear inspiration from the beloved Star Wars pairing.

After The Love Hypothesis was released, it feels like Ali Hazelwood blew up overnight as people were excited about her next release and were demanding more. Hazelwood has gone on to release more adult romances, a series of novellas and now, a young-adult romance book.

To put it simply, Ali Hazelwood has been booked and busy since 2021, but what makes fans gravitate to her books and writing?

Why is Ali Hazelwood such a hyped romance author?

Before getting into why I think Ali Hazelwood is so beloved, I have to be honest. I read The Love Hypothesis and didn't love it. I thought it was fine but nothing special so I skipped out on her novellas and Love on the Brain. If there's one thing I learned, it's that waiting did me good as I've loved every single release I've read from Ali Hazelwood after that.

The thing that appeals to most people about Ali Hazelwood is that her books are quick reads. Her books tend to be long for romances, but they're incredibly fun. You pick one up and before you know it, you're 50% through. By then, you're hooked and want to know how this romance is going to work or what's going on with the characters. There's just something delightful about that.

Another factor working in Ali Hazelwood's favor is that she's a BookTok darling. So many people either became readers or reignited their love of reading from 2020-2022. Given that Ali's debut came out in 2021, it was picked up by a lot of people. While it has been mislabeled as an incredibly spicy read, it's more about the characters and their long-lasting romance.

Coupled with the love she gets from BookTok, Hazelwood knows her audience and what they're looking for when picking up her books. They want realistic characters with problems but a fun romance to boot. Even if you don't understand all the scientific info in her books, it doesn't feel like you're bogged down by that. If anything, it adds something else to help break up the plot and the romance which is necessary at times.

Honestly, Ali Hazelwood tends to write pretty formulaically and for new readers, that can be a huge stepping stone in their reading journey. I will say that in her more recent books, she has branched out and changed up that formula. Even so, those little connections are still there because you still know you're reading an Ali Hazelwood book.

As someone who didn't love her first few releases, I've come to consider myself an Ali Hazelwood fan after reading and loving her recent release. If you vowed to write off Ali Hazelwood, I think picking up Love Theoretically, Not in Love, or Check and Mate might change your mind. Plus her take on paranormal romance: Bride was an utter surprise yet a complete delight from Hazelwood.

Ultimately, Ali Hazelwood is hyped because she writes fun and approachable romances with just enough real life to make it almost realistic. I don't know about you, but sometimes that's all I'm looking for in a romance. I can't wait to see what Ali Hazelwood does next as her books seem to be getting better and better with each release.
