Sonic has been celebrating National Book Month by donating over $1.25 million
Did you know that October is National Book Month? Thanks to Sonic Drive-in restaurants, not only do we know this, but we know what they are doing to help promote literacy and reading across the country.
In a press email that we received on behalf of Sonic, they pointed out that BookTok maybe all the rage on TikTok, but that doesn’t mean that there is not a literacy crisis in our country. In fact, it is said that there is a struggle for children to access books. And the fast food restaurant chain wants to help, and make a big difference in children’s lives.
But how are they doing this? In October, they stepped up with two partnerships that will help to give children better access to books. They partnered with both the Little Free Library and DonorsChoose, with donations of $1.25 million.
Sonic Drive-In is trying to make a difference to improve literacy across the country
In partnership with the Little Free Library, Sonic hope to sponsor 25 of these mini libraries in an assortment of communities around the country. In fact, they even placed one in Sandy Springs, Georgia, which just so happens to be their backyard. And if you want to bring one of the Little Free Libraries to your area, there is a link to apply.
In terms of DonorChoose, “the Sonic Foundation has helped fund nearly 5000 classroom book requests this month,” and of course they are pointing out that there are still so many more classroom libraries that need funding. And if you want to help support the cause, you can also donate through their foundation.
Reading is such a fundamental thing for so many people. It is a gateway to new worlds and ideas. And the only way that we are going to make a difference, is if we all act to make sure that everyone has equal access to books and learning. So we appreciate the fact that Sonic has decided to step up and make a difference.
