Picking up new authors can be intimidating. This is especially true if you've never read one of their books before, but one author you need to pick up is Alexis Daria.

As a romance reader, finding an author you love can be tough. There are so many great ones out there and so many we try and never go back to. However, Alexis Daria won't be in that camp as her books have become some of my favorite reads upon finishing them.

The good news is that she's an author who has written in the same subgenre, but all of her books have a slightly different trope or topic. Most recently, she wrote an Amazon original story during the Christmas season called Only Santas in the Building, which feels like the perfect thing to try if you're looking to get a feel for her writing. She also published What the Hex, which was an Audible original before being released as an e-book.

If you're ready to dive headfirst, then you'll be happy to know that Daria has written two fun and frankly addictive romance series. First is the Dance Off series, which follows a reality dancing show and the different romances that happen during the show. The other is her Primas of Power series, following three cousins as they deal with life, their family, and finding love.

Alexis Daria is the author you've been missing.

As someone who enjoys Alexis Daria's work, there isn't one book or series I'd recommend over the other. However since You Had Me at Hola was the first book of hers I read, I'm partial to the Primas of Power series. The great thing is that she writes contemporary romances with Latina heroines, which isn't always prevalent in the romance genre, but it makes for an even more enjoyable reading experience.

Additionally, the character work that Alexis Daria puts into her books is excellent. The Primas of Power series is a great example, as each book gives us more insight and context into why certain characters act the way they do. Somehow, it always makes perfect sense, and it continues throughout the series as each book shows you the characters make the choices they do.

Of course, we have to talk about how Alexis Daria writes romance. The way she writes sexual tension is just so good. It's clear she isn't afraid to get into the nitty-gritty and the more unpleasant things you might not think about when it comes to romance books. She mentions not getting a UTI and using lube, which books tend to leave out. Honestly, I think it makes for a more realistic read.

Regardless, you won't go wrong in picking up anything from Alexis Daria. Whether you want something shorter or a full-length novel, she has you covered. If anything, she might end up being one of my favorite authors, which is what we're all looking for.
