2024 is shaping up to be the year of the vampire for readers
As readers, there are certain trends we see pop up every year. For 2024, there is no way any of us thought vampires would be the next big thing.
Whether you became a reader because of Twilight or just remember the craze, there was nowhere you couldn't turn around and not see a vampire book. I can't believe that I'm about to say the same thing in 2024.
Almost two decades after the release of the original Twilight book, we're finally seeing a revival of vampires. It's not just in the romance genre, though as vampires aren't just being seen as our next book boyfriend but also our enemies, the main character, or even, the ones we're most looking forward to learning about.
Before getting into some examples from 2024, I have to say that it's worth noting that vampires have always been hot so it doesn't surprise me that this trend came back full circle for those who grew up, reading Twilight.
2024 is full of some amazing vampire books!
For those into the vampire trend, then most of these books are either on your TBR, are on your radar, or are books you've already read. Either way, I wanted to give just a few examples of books released in 2024 to prove that it is indeed the year of the vampire.
There's no better place to start than Bride by Ali Hazelwood. This book was released in February 2024 and follows a romance between a vampire, Misery, and a werewolf, Lowe. This book is a marriage of convenience to unite their two species. While it seems unlikely at first, this is such a unique one from Ali Hazelwood and made for such an enjoyable read. It's also part of the reason why I jumped on the vampire hype train this year.
Not everyone wants to read a vampire romance - which is fair. However, romance isn't the only type of vampire book we've gotten this year. There was Immortal Pleasures by V. Castro which is a vampire horror book. S.T. Gibson blessed us with another vampire release after the success of A Dowry of Blood. In 2024, she released An Education in Malice which didn't get as much love but is one a lot of people have been buzzing about.
For those wanting a toxic friendship story, Rachel Koller Croft is releasing We Love the Nightlife in August. Lucy Undying: A Dracula Novel by Kiersten White is coming out in September which is described as a gothic fantasy. In December, Angela Montoya is giving us A Cruel Thirst which is described as an "irresistible romantic fantasy."
Since I'm a romance reader, I wanted to share some other vampire-themed romance books coming out in 2024. There is My Vampire Plus-One by Jenna Levine coming out in September 2024. Then in October 2024, we're getting Fang Fiction by Kate Stayman-London. Rounding things out is an August release and that's Vampires Never Say Die by Gloria Duke.
As you can see, all genres are getting in on the vampire hype train. not just romance. It's even on our TV screens as Interview with The Vampire has captivated fans this season. Everyone was waiting eagerly for the reunion of Louis and Lestat and the show did not disappoint. Of course, we also have to give thanks to Anne Rice for that.
Whether you're all in on the vampire trend or haven't started reading yet, what are you waiting to sink your teeth into?
