August is falling away and September is here! And while I still am having a hard time believing how quickly August passed, I am excited for the fresh batch of books that are coming! Some are spooky, some are perfect for back to school, and others will have you think about alive. But no matter what, all of these are on our TBRs for this month!
1. The Lies We Conjure by Sarah Henning
I have always loved locked-room mysteries and this one absolutely has me buzzing. After two sisters do a good deed and pretend to be an old woman's granddaughters, they quickly find this might not be worth the money they were promised. Their hostess is murdered, the guests are all witches, and everyone is a suspect. And to make matters worse? If someone finds out they aren't actually magic, they'll be dead too. It seems like a high-drama thriller, and I cannot wait to read this book. And, to make it even more tempting to read, the book is a standalone novel, so we go into it assured we will know who did it by the end.
The Lies We Conjure is available for preorder through Macmillan Publishers and will be released on September 17, 2024
2. Payal Mehta's Romance Revenge Plot by Preeti Chhibber
This book's back cover was both hilarious and relatable. And as a fellow Taco Bell lover, I felt like Payal would have been one of my friends in high school. However, the book also promises an insightful look into microaggressions, an enemies-to-lovers romance, and the important look at deciding who you are as a person. And with it being a YA romance, I'm sure teens and adults alike will love Preeti Chhiber's debut!
Payal Mehta's Romance Revenge Plot is available for preorder through Penguin Random House and will be released on September 24, 2024
3. The Life Impossible by Matt Haig
Matt Haig is a brilliant writer, and The Midnight Library is a novel that will stay close to my heart. I love the way his books will take you on an adventure that's both full of magic and full of heart. And in this book, it looks like he is looking at his signature magical realism through a scientific lens. I think it'll be fascinating to follow Grace’s fresh start in the Mediterranean, and cannot wait to see what he teaches me about life.
The Life Impossible is available for preorder through Penguin Random House and will be released on September 3, 2024
4. The Thirteenth Child by Erin A. Craig
A dark retelling of the Grimm Brother's "Godfather Death" this book follows Hazel - her family's thirteenth child who was then promised to the God of Death. In doing so, she received a gift that helped her as a healer: to be able to tell the exact cure someone needs. However, as her gift grows, she is faced with a question: what happens should she defy her godfather's claim of a soul? As a fairy tale lover, I can't wait to see how it is adapted and to see the world through Hazel's eyes.
The Thirteenth Child is available for preorder through Penguin Random House and will be released on September 24, 2024
5. The Third Gilmore Girl: A Memoir by Kelly Bishop
Gilmore Girls is one of the cultural touchstones of the United States. The coffee-loving, fast-talking Gilmores touched our hearts and our minds as we watched them fall in and out of love. However, the show wouldn't have been what it was without Kelly Bishop - and her performance of Emily Gilmore truly acted as a foil for Rory and Lorelei. I am so excited to get to know the behind-the-scenes stories from the show, but all more about Bishop's Broadway career. As she looks back at her life, I am sure Kelly Bishop has a lot to say, and I am excited to find out what I can learn from it.
The Third Gilmore Girl is available for preorder through Simon & Schuster and will be released on September 17, 2024
