When most people think of Maryland, a few things come to mind. For most, it's Baltimore and from someone who previously lived there, I can see why it's talked about so heavily.

In a way, Baltimore feels like something even bigger than Maryland. Whether you're looking at the food, sports teams, or things to do, there is no shortage of fans of all things. Honestly, it's a city full of so many with so many different things going on at once.

Of course, most of us know that Marylanders have a very different sense of pride in their state. No matter if you're visiting there within the pages of a book or have a trip planned, then you're bound to find something to enjoy. It also helps if you're a fan of seafood and Old Bay.

Either way, I wanted to show some love to the state and recommend some romance books set in Maryland for people to go on their very own bookcation.

Check out these romance books all set in Maryland.

1. The Well Met series by Jen DeLuca

In doing research for this post, I learned that the Well Met by Jen DeLuca is set in Maryland. I read the first three books in the series which are Well Met, Well Played, and Well Matched. The final book in the series is Well Traveled which was released in December 2022. Each book follows a different couple with the first following Emily and Simon who can't stand each other irl but have major chemistry at the Renaissance Faire.

These books take place in Willow Creek, Maryland where the Ren Faire takes place. I couldn't find any info on Willow Creek, Maryland so I think it is a fictional small town in Maryland. Either way, these are such fun contemporary summer romances.

2. The Lovelight series by B.K. Borison

Another romance series you might not realize is set in Maryland is Lovelight. Written by B.K. Borison, these stories are set in the fictional small town of Inglewild, Maryland. Even so, it's clear Borison loves her state as she talks about different places and things only people in Maryland would recognize or think about.

This series has recently wrapped up and with each book focusing on a season, you have something to read all year long. The books are Lovelight Farms, In the Weeds, Mixed Signals, and Business Casual. Borison's love of her home state shines through as her 2025 release: First-Time Caller is set in Baltimore. If you're looking for a cozy romance with small-town vibes, look no further than the Lovelight series.

3. Then There Was You by Mona Shroff

Moving onto the final romance featured on the list, it's Then There Was You by Mona Shroff. This book follows our two characters: Annika and Daniel who meet under some unlikely circumstances. She's a kindergarten teacher and he's a medic who couldn't seem more different. However, the connection between them is undeniable and it's amazing to see how these two are able to connect despite everything they've gone through.

This book is set in Baltimore and focuses on some tough topics including grief, the loss of a child, and school shootings. It is hard to read at times so if you're sensitive to those, please read with care. All in all, this HEA isn't without its hiccups yet the romance and their happy ending feels fully deserved.

While those are all of the romances I've read set in Maryland, I also wanted to recommend a few that are on my TBR if you're looking for more.

  • Sea Swept by Nora Roberts
  • The Cardigans by Cole McCade
  • The Love Factor by Quinn Ivins
