Mysteries for fans of Only Murders in the Building
Only Murders in the Building is one of my absolute favorite shows right now. The comedy trio of Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short is one I cannot emphasize their perfection enough. These amateur sleuths just want to make a true crime podcast without leaving the building they live in - and the results are always hilarious and unexpected. With season 4's debut, I started thinking about mysteries that hit the exact same vibe Only Murders in the Building brings, so I could have the quirky silly mysteries all week long as I wait for the next episode - and these are the ones I felt fit it best.
1. The Golden Spoon by Jessa Maxwell
Great British Baking Show vibes? Check! A crazy cast of characters? Check! The murder of a famous baking celebrity? Check! Each one of the contestants is a little eccentric, just like the residents of the Arconia. Due to a storm, the contestants must work together to determine which one is the murderer - and it's told from all of their points of view to truly build the suspense!
The Golden Spoon is available through Simon & Schuster
2. Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies by Catherine Mack
Mystery writer Eleanor Dash's fancy Italian book tour becomes a deadly affair - complete with rival authors, a stalker, and her ex...who just happens to be based on the character she's currently trying to kill off in her book series. This world is immersive and full of humor to correspond with death. And the author's unique use of footnotes adds extra humor and drama in a way the reader won't soon forget.
Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies is available through Macmillan Publishers
3. Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson
With a title like this, readers know exactly what they are getting into. However, what they may not realize is how hilarious this story is! It balances humor and suspense - as this family of killers has to figure out who killed someone at the family reunion. Plus, the narrator speaks directly to the reader, allowing them to not only read the novel but feel like they're a part of it.
Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone is available through HarperCollins Publishers
