Onyx Storm Cover Revealed!

Book Three of The Empyrean Series looks beautiful

I discovered Fourth Wing exactly when I needed it. Violet reminded me a lot about myself, and seeing a dragon-riding warrior who also had a similar disability to me did wonders for my self-esteem. I devoured both Fourth Wing and then Iron Flame - and the wait for Onyx Storm has been long - and there's still another seven months before we'll get our hands on this book.

But while the book is still months away from release, Rebecca Yarros gave us a gift: it's book cover reveal day! Today.com got the exclusive and from the moment I saw the cover, I was in love. The colors, the sprayed edges, and everything about the reveal showed it is the prettiest cover of the series so far.

I adore the way the shades of black, gray, and gold play with each other - it gives the illusion of what an "onyx storm" could look like. I'm not entirely sure the storm is a true weather event, but as it took the entirety of the second book to find out exactly what an iron flame was, I'm sure it's a mystery we will watch unfold

The tagline "BRAVE THE DARK" also has me intrigued. My gut instinct was this referred to Xaden, and his embrace of the darkness in that ending twist. However, I wonder if the theory is just too obvious, and it refers to something else. Could Violet have to face her inner darkness to keep from going down the same path as Xaden? Is something going to happen to their sun? Or, for reasons unknown, will they have to go underground? The theories are endless as to what it could mean. And I am positive we won't have any answers until next January.

Today's news reignited my excitement for Onyx Storm, and I can't wait to see what our sassy dragons and their riders get up to in the next book.

Onyx Storm is available for preorder, and will be released on January 21, 2025
