Bookcations have taken the reading community by storm. What's better than having an entire vacation devoted to reading? In my opinion, absolutely nothing. Whether you want to travel to a magical world from your couch, or on a trip and want a magical read while you travel, these books are a must-read for any bookcationer.

1. Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

Evie's days at the office start about the same: walk past the severed heads hanging from the ceiling, get some cauldron brew for the boss (and sneakily put a ton of sugar in it), and avoid Becky from HR. She's the personal assistant to The Villain - a man so terrible the kingdom doesn't even know his name, only his attacks on the King! Where one would expect this book to be dark, it is very much a comedy. The Villain's evil lair, complete with a medical station, dragon trainer, and cauldron brew shop, feels like its own world, and the rest of the kingdom comes alive alongside it. This is a fast and fun read you'll have to do in one sitting - it's just too good to put down.

2. Cinder by Marissa Meyer

The Lunar Chronicles is my all-time favorite book series. The best way to describe it is fairy tales mixed with Star Wars and the Terminator. And it all starts with Cinder. A take on Cinderella, our favorite princess is a cyborg living in New Beijing. After her favorite stepsister falls victim to the plague, her stepmother forces her to volunteer as a test subject for a cure - only for Cinder to find out she's immune. The way science meets magic makes for a fascinating read, and the series immerses us in a futuristic world - giving us an idea of what it's like to live in the setting.

3. The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokski

The book is the epitome of a modern-day fairy tale: beautiful, lyrical, and haunting. Two girls are outsiders: one rich, one poor - and believe that maybe the reason is they actually belong in the world of the fairies. There's a dual plotline to the novel: one which takes place when the girls are growing up, and one in the modern day when only one girl remains. The setting is so well described that the reader can feel like they are transported into it, and the mystery of what happened drives both plots. It is a fascinating read and will keep you guessing as you turn the pages.
