Certain authors feel like coming home after a long day and one of those is Lucy Score. Score is an author who feels like your best friend and favorite writer rolled into one. She's led such an interesting life and her books paint an even better picture.
Many were introduced to Score via her Knockemout series which includes Things We Never Got Over, Things We Hide From the Light, and Things We Left Behind. While Score published books before this series, this series feels like the one where Lucy Score went from author to superstar.
That's why I was so excited to pick up Story of My Life. Score has been teasing this book for a while and as someone who has met Lucy before, I was so excited. Not only were we getting a new series from her, but it's going to be something different yet still the same fun and bubbly Lucy Score writing we've come to know and love.
Going into Story of My Life, I went in without any prior knowledge. As much as I enjoy Lucy Score's books, I tend to go into them without knowing much. She's one of those authors who can immediately suck me in despite her books being fairly long as far as romances go. Either way, I knew I was in for a real treat from the very start of Story of My Life.
Story of My Life ushers in the new with callbacks to the Lucy we all love.
Story of My Life follows Hazel Hart, a romance novelist who is struggling. While she's poured her heart and soul into a book series, she's not in love with it anymore. This might be due to her recently going through a break-up and at first, it feels like things can't get any worse. Regardless, her agent ends up getting fired, she buys a house in a small town and decides to uproot her whole life. It feels like something straight from a rom-com.
Once Hazel arrives in Story Lake, she expects that warm small town welcome but that idea is quickly dashed when she makes her presence known early. From there, the story follows Hazel as she tries to put her life back together, write a book, and ignore her grumpy yet undeniably handsome contractor Campbell Bishop aka Cam. At first, these two couldn't be more different.
However as Lucy Score weaves her magic, it's clear the attraction between the two is very real and the chemistry has sparks flying instantly. The amazing thing about these two is just how well they complement each other. Hazel and Cam brought out the best in each other while also pushing each other's buttons. Sometimes, that's exactly what you need from a partner and that's the marker of a solid relationship.
As with other Lucy Score titles, she gave us nuggets of some future romances. While the focus feels like it's on the Bishop brothers, I'd love to see their sister get a second chance at love. Maybe that's something Lucy Score will explore in the future. However, if you're craving a good small-town romance with oodles of charm, funny moments, and plenty of swoons, then you'll fall head-over-heels for Story of My Life.
Story of My Life by Lucy Score is out now where books are sold.
