The Games Gods Play is up there as one of my favorite reads of this year. The more I think about this book, the more I realize I liked it. In fact, I started dreaming I was a Champion in The Crucible, though it wasn't a fun experience to be trapped in when I was asleep. So I was excited this morning to open up Instagram and be greeted with this exciting announcement:

First of all, I am in awe of how perfect this cover is. With the cliffhanger the first book left on, it's no shock the motifs are all red and orange - it's the perfect way to represent Tartarus. And with Tartarus going to play such a big part in the plot of this one, I love the cover giving the feel of what it would feel like to be there. I also love the chaotic nature of the sprayed edges, because I feel like they represent Hades well. With the title being The Things Gods Break I have a theory the title will still refer to Lyra, but part of me also hopes it also refers to Persephone.

I also both understand and hate that the book's release date is September of next year. The first book was long, and I can only imagine this next one will be another five hundred pages or so. If there's anything I learned from reading the first book, it's the kind of book that is a marathon and not a sprint - which I am sure makes them monsters to edit. In addition, this makes it come out almost exactly a year after the first one, which I think works best to help with the pacing of series books on the market.

Overall, I am thrilled to have an official countdown - it means I can contain my excitement appropriately. But I think the thing I am most excited about is the synopsis because I feel like it will answer a lot of questions. Will Hades get his own POV in this book? Will Lyra be able to escape her fate? What is Boone going to do with his new powers? Will we see the other Champions of the Crucible again? I have so many questions that need answering, and while the synopsis will probably only answer one or two it's still something with how things were left at the end of this book.

I've already preordered my special edition to match the first book, as sprayed edges are one of my weaknesses, and I can already imagine how amazing these will look on my bookshelf. And, I can only imagine the second book's ending will wreck me more than the first, just to start the cycle over again for book three.

The Things Gods Break is available for preorder through Entangled Publishing
